Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues Part B
Train of thought:
- Oh no!! Don't come back!
- Okay I love this new black and white outline depiction
- Sita is pregnant!! Arguing over whether its rama or ravana
- Oh no this laundromat thingy
- He needed to have the respect of his subjects so he needed to get rid of Sita?
- OH NO BUSTY SITA IS PREGNANT NOW!!!!
- Sita has been abandoned
- Now we're back in Brooklyn with cockroaches
- banished - shown to be pregnant
- Oh no I absolutely love this humongous pregnant Sita
- Sita is depressed but gives birth to twins which learn to worship Rama?
- Very annoying song about Rama
- Back in Brooklyn, the narrators are now finally addressing/connecting the two stories
- Basically why would you fight for a guy that doesnt want you
- lol "unconditional love" I love these arguments
- Rama finds his sons? He doesnt want Sita though, this is a mess
- Proving the whole purity thing is a mess
- Oh no Mother earth's womb
- So Sita leaves?? Rama is shook.
- We're back in Brooklyn, she's reading the Ramayana!!!
Final Thoughts:
Basically this whole movie is shaped around the idea of female empowerment and forgetting toxic men and celebrating yourself. I especially love the ending! The New York lady finds herself and starts doing her own thing, which I guess ends up being the whole movie! Loved it.
