The Word-Vomit Introduction

Hello everyone!
My name is Lindsay Lorene Ross and I am an enrolled member of the Wichita Tribe here in Oklahoma. My middle name comes from the Matriarch of my family and I am honored every day to carry on her legacy.
I am a Social Studies Education major and hoping to either teach U.S. History to 8th graders or World Geography to 7th. I have a huge history crush on Theodore Roosevelt. I also have three celebrity husbands (all of whom my boyfriend is aware of) Martin Freeman, Brandon Flowers, and the awe-inspiring, earth-shattering Jude Law. I am a super big extrovert and my goal of any relationship is to be a bridesmaid or groomswoman and I shall not stop until that dream has been conquered.
The best class I’ve ever taken at OU is probably a tie between Sociology of Gender with Burge or Queer History with Holland. I learned a lot in both and was also impressed with how much I already knew.
My favorite tv show historically has been Psych, the show I have watched the most front to back is Sherlock, and the show I have the most emotional attachment to is Parks and Rec. My favorite movie historically is The Little Prince, but if I had to pick something from this century I’d probably pick Bohemian Rhapsody. My favorite band with whom none can compete is The Killers. My most memorable experience would probably be seeing The Killers for a second time, but my biggest accomplishment would probably either be raising my sister (and her not turning out half-bad) or being The Independent Greek Council President here on campus as a first-generation student.
When I’m not reading for class or studying, and really even when I am doing that, I am raising my two corgis, Sindri and Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All. They completely drain my social time and brain function, but I love them.
If I had a day away from it all… I would wake up fairly early and grab a Foggy London from my local hometown coffee shop then drive to Fort Worth and go to Urban Outfitters to touch clothes I can’t afford then scoot on down to my favorite place, The Modern, and sun-bathe on their lawn and then go eat Chuy’s until I completely regret leaving my bed in the first place.

(My photo of my babies, neither has really grown into
the whole ear thing quite yet)

  1. Oh, it is so exciting to meet a future educator, Lindsay! Wonderful!!! I hope this class can be a fun way to learn about different ways to set up an online course; I love the freedom of teaching online compared to the classroom (where there never seems to be enough time to do all the things...). And maybe you can add some Indian mythological husbands to your celebrity list... in fact, how cool would that be: you could do a project with your prospective Indian myth-celebrity husbands, going out on a date or interviewing them or whatever it takes for them to be selected as part of your male celebrity elite club ha ha. And I hope you will put the adorable Sindri and Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All, on the Pet Padlet: let there be corgis! Here's the "Pet Padlet" -- Padlet Tech Tips, which is a fun way to do an extra credit Tech Tip thing. Although I don't think Padlet will allow the awesome font-size experiment which you have carried out here so beautifully at Blogger! :-)

  2. Hi Lindsay,

I love how social you are! I hope you get to achieve your goal of being a bridesmaid and/ or groomsman. You have the best taste in shows. Parks and Rec and the Little Prince are my top favorites in their respective categories. Your two corgis are the absolute cutest. Corgis are my dream dog and one day I would love to adopt one. PS Chuy's is an amazing place. My favorite is the chicken tortilla soup since I am a soup person but if you have a favorite at Chuy's I would love to gear about it.

  3. Howdy Lindsay! Even though we do not even know each other, if you need to complete your goal of being a bridesmaid or a groomsman, I'll let you be in my wedding. Now that we got that out of the way, I want to say I am not very extroverted, but I love that you are. You seem so fun to be around. I also wanted to say that your corgis are adorable, and they definitely have mastered the puppy dog face.

It was nice getting to know you a little bit,
    Your peer, Hannah

  4. Hi Lindsay, it's awesome that you want to be a 7th or 8th grade social studies teacher. Both of those classes were my favorite middle school classes. I find geography and history to be really interesting! Also on the topic of Psych that used to be my favorite show to watch when I was a kid. I remember always watching Monk with my dad then Psych would come on after. I never could find the pineapple in every episode, but I sure did try.

    Great getting to know you,
    Alex

  5. Hi Lindsay!

Nice to meet you! First of all THAT PICTURE! Your doggos are tooooo cute. I have a little chihuahua named Roxy who is about the size of your little ones. Also, yay! You are the first person I have found who also watched the show psych, that was my favorite for so long. Also parks and rec, another classic. Have you watched the office?? It is so similar to parks and rec in terms of humor. I am also a first generation student, so congratulations to you! You're making history! I hope you have a great rest of your semester and that I get to see more of your blog posts in the future!

  6. Hi Lindsay,
Your introduction is really interesting. First of all the picture caught my eye because corgis are my favorite kind of dog. Secondly, I really like how your middle name means a lot to you because my middle name also means a lot to me and I like asking people what their middle names are. Why specifically do you have a crush on Theodore Roosevelt? He does seem like an all around cool guy.

  7. Hi Lindsay,

Let me just start off by saying that your babies look adorable. I think is really cool that you want to be a teacher, it seems like you would be an awesome one. If you're into history, I would rerecorded the podcast Hardcore History by Dan Carlin, really interesting stuff. I also really like the show Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch is amazing.

I look forward to reading some of your stories during the semester!

    Best,
    Kevin

  8. Hey Lindsay! My brother and I are both named after our grandmother's maiden names. So we are named after the matriarchs of both my parents families! What an awesome thing. Theodore Roosevelt is FASCINATING! I am a national park junky so I am always interested in learning about Roosevelt because he went on so many crazy explorations. I love your goal of teaching, I love kids and I think it would be so cool to teach them about history or geography!

  9. Hello Lindsay! We have a few things in common! I, too am Native, and I am enrolled with Muskogee "Creek" Nation. I have not heard of the Wichita Tribe before, and I would love to hear more about your tribe! Your last name is Ross, and mine is soon to be! My fiancé has the last name, Ross. I loved hearing about your perfect day, particularly the part about gorging at Chuy's! haha. Since you mention Dallas, is that where you live and taking online classes, or is that where you are from? Thanks for sharing!!

  10. Hi Lindsay,

What a great collection of stuff! One can just tell reading this post how energetic and fun you must be in person. I'm sure that your future students will love it.

Parks and Rec is a great show, and I'm curious what exactly you mean by "emotional connection" to it. I think that choice shows good taste though :).

    Best,
    A.

  11. Hi Lindsay,

It is so great to meet you. I was cracking up when you said you have a history crush on Theodore Roosevelt. That is awesome. I personally always enjoyed learning about history in my classes! It was definitely my favorite subject growing up. I am sure you will be a great teacher. I also can relate to PSYCH being your favorite show. I had no idea people watched it. I seriously used to be obsessed with it. Unfortunately, I have not seen an episode in a very long time. Hopefully this summer I can catch up on all of the episodes I've missed!

  12. Hi Lindsay!

First of all, you are totally awesome! Secondly, did you hear that they just confirmed for a Psych movie?? I absolutely love Psych and own all of the seasons. Also, you were able to go see The Killers?? That is awesome! Your puppies are super cute and I completely understand wanting to spend most of your time with them because I am the same way with my cats. If you like Foggy Londons, you should try a hot chai latte with lavender in it. I usually get mine from Second Wind or Gray Owl. Isn't the name Stormageddon: Dark Lord of All from Doctor Who with Matt Smith??

  13. Hi hi Lindsay!!

It's interesting to meet someone with whom I appear to have absolutely nothing in common with. I'm half tempted to rewrite your intro with every letter reversed to introduce myself, and while I certainly lack the self restraint to do something that obnoxious, I do lack the will to do it at the moment. That's not entirely true, we do seem to have a propensity for developing weird crushes. Mine was Yuno Gasai, and every time I try to write a story, the words rearrange themselves to say "edge ensues".

  14. Lindsay, I really enjoyed your intro. It sounds like you have a lot planned ahead of you and a lot of cool interest. I really like it that you enjoy Chuy’s. That has to be my favorite tex-mex place to eat. I try to eat there as much as possible and unfortunately over indulge every time I go.

  15. Nice to meet you, Lindsay! Your life sounds really packed, and really interesting. I can tell you read a lot (either for fun or for school) because the way you piece sentences together flows really nicely. I've never seen Psych in its entirety, but from the clips I've seen here and there, it looks like a really fun show. Have you watched Scrubs? A little older (it's been nearly a decade since it ended!!) but one of my all time favorites, both for comedy and making you feel the feels.

  16. Hey Lindsay!
I really enjoyed your introduction post and the way you creatively and humorously described the details of your life. I also really appreciate the connection you feel in honoring your middle name as it relates to your mother. We both enjoy quite a few of the same shows and movies. I saw Bohemian Rhapsody three times; I loved Psych and Sherlock; Parks and Recreation is easily one of the funniest shows on Earth. Your post made me want to grab a Foggy London and enjoy some amazing entertainment!

  17. Hi~
I really like your site! It's very aesthetic. Speaking of Teddy Roosevelt, I went on a long Wikipedia trail at work the other day and came across his first daughter. Alice Roosevelt Longworth was such a character I've told probably no less than five people about her so far. She once said 'If you can't say something good about someone, sit next to me.' I love that even if she was a sassy hedonist, she made sure people knew just how tough and smart she was.
I wish you luck on making your one day away from it all a reality!

  18. Hey Lindsay!
That is awesome that you want to go into education and teach U.S history. That was one of my favorite classes. I love history except when I have to write papers haha
I also love The Killers. I have never seen them in concert sadly but hopefully one day! That is so cool you have dogs, the one on the right with his/her ears down is so cute!

  19. Hey Lindsay,
Your puppies are so cute! Your introduction was fun to read and I thought the part about your crush on Theodore Roosevelt was funny. My favorite subject in high school was history so I think it's awesome that you're considering being a U.S. History teacher. I think it's just so interesting to learn about the past and see how much has changed since then. I love how you seem so passionate about your major and that you've found something you want to do in the future.

  20. Hey there Lindsay!
I have not met your puppies but I can honestly tell you I love them with all my heart. I can't wait till I can have my own little puppy. Unfortunately, that's a looong ways down the line. I think it's amazing that you want to teach geography or US history. I want to teach high school bio. Teachers have the greatest impact on young kiddos and I can tell you'll be a great one! Best of luck to you!!!

  21. Hi Lindsey! You have good taste in media! I love The Killers too. Most bands only sound good to me if I'm in the right mood, but The Killers somehow sound good no matter if I'm happy or sad or whatever. I also love Bohemian Rhapsody too. I was really impressed with how close they got visually. If you ever get the chance, watch the Live Aid scene back-to-back with actual footage from the concert. It's so spot on from the gestures to the expressions to the paper cups on the piano. Very, very well-done and very neat. Also, your puppies are adorable.

  22. This is a great intro Lindsay. I love the beautiful picture you added of your two fur babies. Dogs do take up a lot of time in terms of care, but it's all worth it when they bring a smile to your face every single day. I love a few songs from The Killers, if the second time you saw them was your favorite I'm sure they are great performers. I think my favorite history learning moments were from 7th and 8th grade, that's a great grade range to want to teach!

  23. Lindsey,
I appreciate anyone who can say they have a crush on Theodore Roosevelt. I can say I have a man-crush on the presidential stud. Who else can claim to have led a progressive movement in the US while continuously carrying a bullet from a failed assassination attempt in which he continued to give a 90-minute speech while suffering from an open gunshot wound? I think that says a little bit about your character as well!
