Week 2 Reading Overview
I have chosen to read... *drumroll* THE PUBLIC DOMAIN VERSION! The main factors influencing my decision are definitely the cost and the imagery. Anywhere I can save a few bucks, I shall! I am also a very visual learner so will enjoy the images to accompany the reading. and the main factor(s) influencing your decision.
For the comics, I really enjoyed two jataka stories I found on the random comic upload thingy. The first I found was Bird Stories: Jataka Stories of Brains Versus Brawn which I was initially drawn to because I had read in the previous page that some were Buddhist folk tales. I never was fully Buddhist but I spent the majority of my high school career focusing on meditation and mindfulness. The second comic I liked was Stories of Courage: Jataka Tales Of Valour And Victory ! I chose this mostly to keep with the theme of Jataka tales. I like it because it reminds me of this old show I used to watch as a kid that had cartoons of asian folk tales and myths.
The two videos I watched were Karma: Action and Reaction and Moksha: Freedom from Life and Death. I chose both of these because they seemed related and I have always been fascinated by the idea of rebirth and continuing on in different forms. In the Moksha video, there was a really beautiful illustration of the transition and rotation between lives. The idea that one could be a butterfly and then a human and then a sperm whale is very calming and exciting at the same time.
I chose this image because of the colors first and foremost. Secondly, I love there depiction of life and elegance. There isn't much going on accessory-wise but you still get a sense of affluence and fan fare.
